Diploma in Paediatric Osteopathy (DPO).

The course has been developed in response to demand from the profession for sound training in Paediatric Osteopathy which did not involve the volume of coursework required for Masters level study. The DPO builds on the best practice of our previous MSc course and introduces much more clinically applied methods of delivery and assessment.

Increasingly osteopaths are seeking tuition and expert knowledge enabling them to become confident and competent to treat the broad range of presenting paediatric patients. The new DPO utilises the long standing clinical expertise of the Foundation for Paediatric Osteopathy’s clinical faculty and offers students the unique opportunity to work under the supervision of an experienced team, treating children who present with a wide variety of conditions. The programme also includes supervised treatment of children within Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU) and Special Care Baby Units (SCBU) within two London hospitals and treatment of children in the acute paediatric ward. The DPO will appeal to osteopaths with varying levels of clinical experience who wish to further their practical skills and knowledge base in this field.

Like all previous education courses at the Foundation for Paediatric Osteopathy, the DPO will include 2 years of clinical supervision (one day per week). All applicants must be qualified osteopaths with a good undergraduate degree or equivalent and a post-graduate involuntary mechanism course from an SCTF accredited institution. All DPO students become practitioners working in one of the Foundation’s clinics (Osteopathic Centre for Children) so all applicants must be registered and insured to practice within the UK before September 2010. An Enhanced Disclosure from the Criminal Records Bureau will also be required.

We are accepting applications for the 2010 intake of the DPO.  If you have any questions about the DPO, please contact sonia.nelson-cole@fpo.org.uk.
